ERIE Celebrates 80th Anniversary
On April 20, 1925, H.O. Hirt and O.G. Crawford opened the doors of the
newly licensed Erie Insurance Exchange. This venture was part of the
post-World War I entrepreneurial explosion. It was also a personal challenge
for these
two men.
Eighty years later, the ERIE family of Employees, Agents and Policyholders
celebrate that daring beginning. We also celebrate the growth, expansion
and service that make up the ERIE story. You can travel through ERIE’s
history by way of a colorful and information-packed Historic
Timeline of
company and world events over the past 80 years.
Learn more about Erie Insurance and the customer-oriented themes
that permeate our history. For example:
- When did ERIE introduce “Xtra features” at
no extra cost?
- How did ERIE manage through the shortages of the World
War II era?
- When did ERIE’s choir record a Christmas album?
- How did ERIE
transform “the
combat zone” in
Erie, Pa.?
Surround yourself with images and visions of ERIE’s past, present
and future as ERIE celebrates 80 years of providing our Policyholders
