When I arrived at the insured’s house, the fire department was still there putting out the fire. They had the fire under control at that point but there was still smoke coming out of both ends of the house.
I quickly located where the insured was at. She was standing on the sidewalk, talking to some neighbors and friends.
When I approached her she gave me a hug instantly and she said she remembered me from a claim that I had handled for her in the past and she indicated that she didn’t know how she was going to be able to do this, because her husband was out of town on business.
I indicated to her that she had a good policy with Erie Insurance and that we would take care of it and take care of the situation and we could get her house back to the way it was prior to the fire occurring.
I stayed with her for probably three or four hours while they put out the fire and met with the fire department. They actually walked me through the house and showed me where the cause of the fire was at – mostly just smoke damage throughout the house. I came back out and was able to tell the insured that most of her items were still okay, that they were just smoke damaged.
This claim was one of those claims that make you want to continue doing what you do. It allowed me to provide good service to a Policyholder and feel good about what I do.
