Pimped the presidential plane
Born to buff: Mike Iannarelli and his brother started their auto detailing business, Extreme Details, five years ago, but Mike’s start in the biz goes back much further: At 16, he started his own car washing business.
Ze plane! Ze plane!: This past summer, Iannarelli was selected as part of a special team detailing the original Air Force One, which lives outside at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. The aircraft was used during the Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon administrations.
“It was fantastic,” he says of the six-day experience, which he did pro bono. “I don’t even know how to describe it. To work on this aircraft was a really special thing. It was pretty awesome, and overwhelming when you see the size - it was ridiculous.”
It’s the bomb: Iannarelli also detailed a rare WWII B29 bomber while he was in Seattle.
“That one was cool,” he says. “I worked on it with a bunch of guys who used to work for Boeing, as well as engineers and old military guys. They knew the history of the plane and told me all kinds of stories.”
Why ERIE? “When I was 17 years old and had a Camaro, one of my customers from the car wash recommended Eisert Insurance (in Sterling, Va.),” Iannarelli says. “They gave me a great rate, and I’ve been with them ever since – more than half my life."
