Safe & Secure Sweepstakes Winners

April 3, 2008

From September through November 2007, Erie Insurance ran the Safe & Secure Sweepstakes. The giveaway included three top safety prizes (a safe car, a home safety makeover and a safe investment through an Erie Family Life CD Annuity) and more than a dozen car/home safety baskets.

The winners:

Mary Jane Wright

Mary Jane Wright, St. Martinsville, Ill.
This isn’t the first time that Mary Jane Wright has entered a contest and won, but it is the first time she’s received a prize of such proportions. As the grand prize winner in Erie Insurance’s Safe & Secure Sweepstakes, she had the option of a 2007 Ford Edge (a top pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) or a cash option.

Wright opted to take the cash ($18,000), and she has plenty of plans for it.  Some of those plans include new glasses, filling her propane tanks, a visit to Graceland in Memphis, Tenn., and a bus trip to see the Jersey Boys musical tour among other things.  She plans to share a little as well. Some of the money will help fund her grandson’s missionary trip to Argentina in May.

And the giving doesn’t end there. Wright’s Erie Insurance agent, Nancy Tomasino with Alliance Insurance Agency in Peoria, Ill., will also receive a small gift. Mary Jane plans to deliver fresh baked bread and candy to the agency’s office to show her appreciation.

Michael Onesky

and Michael Onesky

Michael Onesky, Bethlehem, Pa.
When Michael Onesky won the $20,000 Home Safety Makeover, he kept the news secret. He opted to take the $10,000 cash option, and he had great plans for his winnings.  Those plans included sharing the prize money with his children and grandchildren.

Onesky hadn’t told a soul about the winnings, so when his daughters found out about the gift, they were completely surprised and very appreciative.

Onesky is retired from the Firestone tire plant in Pottstown, Pa. He is active in his church and other community activities. And after 62 years as at ERIE Policyholder, he’s happier than ever with his insurance agent, Jim Robertson of Robertson Insurance Group in Bethlehem, Pa., and his insurance company.

William Maines

and William Maines

William Maines, Kents Store, Va.
William Maines describes himself as a simple guy. The locomotive engineer enjoys hunting and fishing in his free time and says he doesn’t typically enter contests.

He entered ERIE’s Safe & Secure Sweepstakes on a whim after seeing it in one of ERIE’s magazines. Maines says he was by the mailbox so he filled out the entry form and dropped it in the mail. It paid off when he took home the sweepstakes third price, a $10,000 annuity from Erie Family Life.

Maines, a client of Steve Bacon of Bacon Insurance Group in Richmond, Va., says that the win came as a complete surprise, but something that will be very helpful with his retirement savings.
