Dec. 9, 2011 - Agents and Employees recently participated in a friendly team competition to raise money for a variety of charities, including ERIE’s annual Home Office Turkey Drive.

They formed teams and competed in a series of one-minute challenges of block stacking, pencil bouncing and other fun “skills.” The Erie Branch Agents walked away from the challenge with a $1,000 check for the charity of their choice.

“I was stunned when I found out our Agents wanted to donate the $1,000 to the annual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive,” says Rick Hinman, section manager of Infrastructure Applications and Data Administration.

The drive benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania. Rick surpassed his goal of providing 2,000 families with dinners this year. The total number of dinners provided was 2,024.

Rick — fondly known as the “Turkey Man” — has organized the turkey drive since the start, 25 years ago. Agents also help by volunteering or making donations.
Bob Lafaro of Mantsch-Lafaro Insurance Agency and Dennis Bort of Bort Insurance Services recently visited the Home Office to present the $1,000 check to Second Harvest Food Bank Executive Director Karen Seggi. President and CEO Terry Cavanaugh, Vice President and Erie Branch Manager Marc Cipriani and the Turkey Man himself were also in attendance for the check presentation.

“It means so much that our Agents even considered making this donation to the Thanksgiving drive,” says Rick. “I know that Karen and everyone at Second Harvest Food Bank were appreciative and will put the donation to good use.”
