Chip Dufala, CPCU, serves as executive vice president, Services, at Erie Insurance, a regional property/casualty and life insurer based in Erie, Pa. The primary responsibility of the Services role is sustaining and enhancing ERIE’s delivery on its Above All in Above All in SERVICESM commitment. It includes oversight of the Corporate Claims, Field Claims, Corporate Services, and Customer Service divisions.
Dufala joined ERIE in 1993 in the district sales manager training program. Shortly after, he moved to Raleigh, N.C., as a district sales manager. In 1997, he was named branch manager for the Illinois branch office and a year later was appointed assistant vice president. Dufala established ERIE’s Illinois branch office, which began operations on Jan. 1, 1999. In 2002, he was promoted to regional vice president of ERIE’s Heartland Region, which includes the company’s Illinois and Wisconsin operations. In 2005, he was promoted to senior vice president of the Customer Service Division. Dufala held this position until October 2008 when he was promoted to senior vice president of the Erie Family Life division. Dufala’s responsibilities included overseeing processes and identifying ways to improve efficiencies and effectiveness of the life company for the benefit of Agents, Policyholders and the company. The Life division encompasses customer service, claims, processing, billing and underwriting.
Dufala earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Thiel College in Greenville, Pa. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety, the Thiel College Board of Trustees, The Board of Trustees for the Visiting Nurses Association on Erie, the Board of Governors for the Erie Philharmonic, and on the Leadership Giving Committee for the Erie County United Way. Dufala has earned designations as a Certified Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Customer Service (ACS), Associate in Claims (AIC), Associate in Insurance Services (AIS), Associate of Insurance (AINS), Associate in Personal Insurance (API), Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) and Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow (LUTCF). He is a member of the Pennsylvania Life Underwriter Association and the Certified Professional Insurance Agents Society.
