FAQs
Do I automatically get Roadside Service coverage with my auto policy?
The simple answer to the question: No. Roadside Service coverage is an optional feature of your ERIE auto policy. It’s easy to add and won’t burn a hole in your wallet. As a bonus, you will have peace of mind knowing ERIE has your back if something happens, especially during bad weather.
Can customers with Roadside Service use another provider of roadside assistance?
Customers have the option to make their own roadside assistance arrangements or use Agero. If a customer makes their own arrangements, they are advised to save any receipts and submit the charges to their agent for reimbursement.
If a customer does not have this coverage and wants to use Agero, it will be due at time of service.
Where is Roadside Service eligible?
Roadside service is available 24/7, including holidays, in the United States and District of Columbia. Services are limited to public roads, including accessible driveways and parking lots, but do not include private or off-road locations. What-if Scenarios
What if I get a flat tire on the highway?
Flat tires are very common but should never be ignored. If you notice that your tire pressure has gone way down or any of the other signs of a flat tire, such as a thumping noise or the vehicle pulling to one side, slow down gradually, turn on your hazard lights and carefully steer to the right shoulder, exit ramp or another safe place away from traffic.
Once there’s enough distance between you and traffic to park, contact your preferred towing company or use ERIE’s Roadside Service by filing a tow claim online or calling 800-FOR-ERIE (800-367-3743). One of the great things about this add-on is that there’s no deductible, so in most cases you don’t have to pay anything up front.
What if I run out of gas?
If your car runs out of gas and can no longer drive, turn on your hazard lights and pull to the right as far away from traffic as you can.
With Roadside Service, our service provider will bring enough gas—usually two gallons— so you can get to the nearest filling station. The customer will have to pay the service provider for the cost of the fuel.
What if my car won’t start?
A car that won’t start could be experiencing any number of issues. Common causes include a dead battery (especially in cold weather), a faulty starter and electrical issues among many others. If it is an issue with the battery, the problem can often be solved with a jump-start or a quick charge.
ERIE’s Roadside Service can provide these services on site, so you can be on your way. If the jump-start doesn’t resolve the issue, ERIE will pay to have the vehicle towed.
What if I need help, but I’m not sure if I have the coverage?
If you aren’t sure if you have this coverage and your vehicle breaks down, you can still call Agero. They can look up your policy and see if you have this additional coverage. If you don’t but you still need assistance, Agero can set you up with help. You’ll just have to pay on the spot for any towing or service call.
