My job is to investigate insurance claims. Not the typical, run-of-the-mill claims most folks have, but the more complex or unusual claims. I also help our claims adjusters determine just what happened to cause a loss so they can decide how to settle the claim fairly.
Most of the claims I investigate are not fraud, so I always approach each investigation on the premise that the claim is legitimate. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. Insurance fraud does exist — and every insurance consumer in America pays for it. In fact, it’s estimated that we each pay an additional $300 every year for insurance because of fraud.
