The 2018 study is based on responses from 10,896 auto insurance customers who settled a claim within the past six months prior to taking the survey. The study excludes claimants whose vehicle incurred only glass/windshield damage or was stolen, or who only filed a roadside assistance claim. For the 7th consecutive year, Erie Insurance was ranked highest in customer satisfaction among auto insurers for providing an excellent shopping experience. ERIE scored 917 points on a 1,000 point scale, 65 points above the industry average of 852. The U.S. Insurance Shopping Study measures auto insurance shopping, purchase behavior and purchase experience satisfaction among customers who recently purchased insurance.
The study is based on responses from more than 14,400 insurance customers who requested an auto insurance price quote from at least one competitive insurer in the past nine months and includes more than 38,800 unique customer evaluations of insurers. The study was fielded in April, July and October 2018 and January 2019. Erie Insurance received the highest numerical score in the J.D. Power 2013–2019 U.S. Insurance Shopping Study (tied in 2016).
