ERIE Customer with Insurance Center of Harrisonburg in Harrisonburg, Va.
The Kratz stats: Erik joined the Phillies in 2011 after 10 seasons in the minors. In 2012, he posted a .248 batting average, nine doubles, nine homers and 26 RBIs. He also threw out 45 percent of base-stealers.
Persistence pays off: Erik says he’s dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player since he was a six-year-old Little Leaguer. For him, the journey toward his goal was more important than the destination. “I would tell anyone to follow their dream,” he says, “not because they’ll necessarily reach it, but because of the satisfaction of giving everything you have.”
A devoted dad: Erik and his wife Sarah are the proud parents of three young children: Brayden (6), Ethan (4) and Avery (6 months). While he’s on the road, Erik stays in touch with his loved ones via lots of Skype sessions and phone calls. He also pays tribute to them after every home run with his trademark five fist bumps.
A far-driving car: Not many sports stars can say they drive a 1998 Honda with 192,500 miles on it—but Erik can. “I kept it because I didn’t need anything else,” he says. “But now that we had our third child, we’re looking to upgrade to something bigger.”
Why ERIE? Erik and Sarah switched to ERIE after they got married in 2001. “My wife had been with ERIE her whole driving life,” Erik explains. “Her family had a good working relationship with their Agent, whose son is now our Agent.”
