President and CEO Message: Pioneering a New Solution

by Erie Insurance on April 17, 2023

If you feel like every day brings a new extreme weather event, you’re not alone. From destructive hurricanes to historic blizzards—and of course, the flooding that comes along with them—these occurrences are happening more and more.

It’s no surprise, then, that water damage has become one of the most common home insurance claims. One in fifty insured homes files a water claim each year, according to the Insurance Information Institute.

But what a lot of homeowners don’t know is that many insurance policies don’t provide protection when it comes to flooding. They only find out about this lack of protection when they actually need it—and when it’s, unfortunately, too late.

That’s not a chance we want our policyholders to have to take. And that's why we've pioneered a solution for this gap in the industry with our Extended Water coverage, designed to provide your home with broad coverage for many types of water damage.

It’s a demonstration of our longstanding commitment to doing the right thing and an important part of our promise to you. Just like our teams responded after devastating tornadoes in Kentucky (see “A Moment’s Notice,” page 6), we’re here for you should disaster—large or small—ever strike. And we're here to give you peace of mind knowing you and your family are protected when you need it most.

Best,

Tim
