Sean McLaughlin serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel.

He received his bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Georgetown University in 1977 and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1980. He clerked for the Honorable William W. Knox of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 1980-1981.  From 1981-1994 McLaughlin was in private practice with the law firm of Knox, McLaughlin, Gornall & Sennett, P.C. where he concentrated in civil litigation. 

McLaughlin was sworn in as a United States District Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania in October 1994 and completed his tenure on the Court as Chief Judge in August 2013, when he joined Erie Insurance.  While on the bench, McLaughlin served as Chair of the Court Governance and Magistrate Committees and also served on a Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States. 

McLaughlin has lectured frequently for the Erie County Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute on a wide variety of topics concerning federal, criminal and civil practice.

McLaughlin currently serves on the Boards of The Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania, the Robert H. Jackson Center and the Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce.  He is also a member of the Erie County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
