Sean McLaughlin serves as Executive Vice President and General Counsel. McLaughlin joined ERIE in August 2013.
McLaughlin was sworn in as a United States District Judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania in October of 1994 and completed his tenure on the Court as Chief Judge. While on the bench, he served as Chair of the Court Governance and Magistrate Committees and also served on a Committee of the Judicial Conference of the United States. McLaughlin has lectured frequently for the Erie County Bar Association, the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Institute on a variety of topics concerning federal, criminal and civil practice.
He has been active in the Northwest Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Inns of Court and is a former member of the Executive Committee of the Erie County Bar Association. He is presently a member of the Erie County and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.
McLaughlin received his B.A. in American Studies from Georgetown University and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. Thereafter, he clerked for the Honorable William W. Knox of the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania from 1980-1981. From 1981-1994 McLaughlin was in private practice with the law firm of Knox, McLaughlin, Gornall & Sennett, P.C., where he concentrated in civil litigation.
