Allentown-area nonprofits awarded $85,000 raised at Erie Insurance Charity Challenge golf tournament

Nineteen Allentown-based nonprofits were awarded $85,000 today from the 5th annual Erie Insurance (ERIE) Allentown Charity Challenge golf tournament. Held at the Saucon Valley Country Club, Erie Insurance agents and leaders competed to award a share of the prize money to a local nonprofit of their choice.

“Supporting area nonprofits and the critical work they do in our communities is simply put, one of the ways Erie Insurance gives back to the communities we serve,” said Christy Blashock, ERIE’s community outreach manager. “These local nonprofit organizations are working to meet many different community needs, and we’re glad to help deepen their impact.”

The Erie Insurance Charity Challenge began in 2010 in Erie, Pennsylvania. It expanded to Allentown, Pennsylvania in 2017 and combined, the tournaments have contributed more than $1.5 million to nonprofits in those communities. ERIE covers the cost of the event and 100 percent of the entry fees are donated to charities.

The nonprofits receiving funds this year included: Miracle League of Lehigh Valley, East Penn School District Education Foundation, Crime Victim’s Council of Lehigh Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley, Lauren’s Hope Foundation The Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation, Tails of Valor, Trappe Fire Company, Worthwhile Wear, Healthy Adams County, Freedom First Rescue, HEADstrong Foundation, Miller-Keystone Blood Center, IM ABLE Foundation, National MS Society, Matthew’s Moonlight, Home of the Sparrow, New Bethany Ministries, Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic.
