ERIE supporting community improvement programs and local nonprofits through Pennsylvania Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credit

Erie Insurance (ERIE) has awarded ten nonprofits more than $928,000 in funding for 2024 to boost neighborhood improvement and community advancement programs as part of Pennsylvania’s Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) tax credit.

NAP is a business tax credit program run by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development that encourages businesses to support eligible nonprofit organizations and projects that improve distressed areas across the Commonwealth.

This year, ERIE’s funding will help support local nonprofits in Erie, Pa. that are providing quality childcare, social services, life skills and workforce development, hunger avoidance and food distribution, transitional and affordable housing, and neighborhood revitalization programs.

“We are committed to advancing and strengthening our communities,” said Christine Blashock, ERIE’s community outreach manager. “One of the many ways ERIE does this is by supporting our nonprofit partners with funding and volunteers to help address the issues facing local neighborhoods. It’s humbling to continue to be part of a significant effort to make a difference in the lives of people in the community we call home.”

Erie DAWN is one of the local nonprofits receiving a grant that will support women facing homelessness.

"This collaboration exemplifies the power of partnerships between businesses, nonprofit organizations, funders, and the Commonwealth to create positive community impact," said Dr. Susanne Kuligowski, Erie DAWN executive director. "The support from Erie Insurance has allowed us to enhance our transitional housing facilities, providing a better environment for the women and families we serve."

Other organizations receiving NAP grants from ERIE include Bayfront NATO’s Martin Luther King Center, Climate Changers, Crime Victim Center of Erie County, Erie Downtown Partnership, Erie United Methodist Alliance, expERIEnce Children’s Museum, Gannon University, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Sisters of St. Joseph Neighborhood Network.

“For Erie Insurance, the benefit goes well beyond the tax credit offered through public-private partnerships such as Pennsylvania’s Neighborhood Assistance Program,” said Christina Marsh, chief diversity and community development officer at Erie Insurance. “We take our responsibility to give where we live to heart and choose to contribute direct funding to multiply the positive impacts these local nonprofits provide in service to the Erie community.”
