Erie Insurance has donated more than $2 million to local nonprofits since 2010 through the Charity Challenge

Nearly 20 Allentown-area nonprofits were awarded nearly $100,000 today from the 6th annual Erie Insurance (ERIE) Allentown Charity Challenge golf tournament. Held at the Saucon Valley Country Club, Erie Insurance agents competed to award a share of the prize money to a local nonprofit of their choice.

“Supporting nonprofit organizations in the communities where our agents and employees live and work is one of the ways Erie Insurance gives back,” said Jenny Geertson, community outreach director for Erie Insurance. “These Allentown-area charities are meeting vital community needs and we’re glad to help enhance their programs and the resources available because of this event.”

The Erie Insurance Charity Challenge began in 2010 in Erie, Pa. It expanded to Allentown in 2017 and combined, the two tournaments have contributed more than two-million dollars to nonprofits in those communities. Erie Insurance covers the cost of the events and 100 percent of the entry fees and sponsorships are donated to charities.

The nonprofits receiving funds in Allentown this year include: Ann Silverman Community Health Clinic, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Lehigh Valley Great Strides, Face to Face, Freedom First Rescue, For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation, HEADstrong Foundation, Healthy Adams County, Meals on Wheels of the Greater Lehigh Valley, New Bethany Ministries, Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, Second Harvest Food Bank of Lehigh Valley and Northeast Pennsylvania, Tails of Valor - Paws of Honor, The Fund of Hope: Emmaus Lions Club, The Greater Chambersburg Chamber Foundation, Trappe Fire Company, Weavers Way Community Fund, West Shore Bureau of Fire, Westside Community Center and Worthwhile Wear.
