More than 20 charities awarded $100,000 raised during Erie Insurance Charity Challenge

June 10, 2024

Erie Insurance Charity Challenge has donated more than $2 million since 2010 to local nonprofits

More than 20 Erie-area nonprofits received a total of $100,000 in donations today from the 13th annual Erie Insurance Charity Challenge golf tournament. Area businesses participating in the tournament donated their “prize” money to a charitable organization of their choice.

Since its start in 2010, Charity Challenge has contributed more than $2 million to local nonprofits in Erie and Allentown, Pa., where a similar event will be held next month. This level of giving is possible because Erie Insurance underwrites the entire cost of the tournaments so that every dollar raised from entry fees and hole sponsorships goes directly to charities.

Today, the winning golf team was Corry Fabrication, which donated its $17,000 first place tournament prize to Impact Corry. The remaining funds were divided among all charities, with donations ranging from $2,000 to $17,000.

“This is just another way Erie Insurance supports local nonprofits and encourages others to join us in giving where we live,” said Jenny Geertson, ERIE’s community outreach director. “We’re grateful to the area businesses that make Charity Challenge a priority because, together, we are building a stronger community by supporting the important services and resources these nonprofits provide.”

The charities benefiting this year included: American Red Cross-Northwest PA Chapter, Asbury Woods, Eagle’s Nest Leadership Corporation, Emma’s Footprints, Emmaus Ministries, Erie Humane Society, expERIEnce Children's Museum, Impact Corry (Corry Community Development Corporation), James R. Herdzik Memorial Scholarship, Junior Achievement of Western PA, Lindsay Graygo Memorial Scholarship, Make-A-Wish of Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Meals On Wheels- Erie, Saint Martin Center, Salvation Army, Sarah A. Reed Children’s Center, Second Harvest Food Bank, Therapy Dogs United and YMCA of Greater Erie.
