Home Insurance Claims

Your home is part of your family. It’s filled with memories and treasured keepsakes. When something goes terribly wrong at home, we’ll be there to help you. We know how important it is to get things repaired and back in order so you can move on with your life. You can depend on our agents and employees who have lots of experience helping customers deal with life’s surprises.

Here’s important information to help you get started on your home insurance claim.

  1. Start your claim

You can start an home insurance claim by:

If your claim involved theft or burglary, it’s best to contact the police to report the incident. It’s also important to protect your home from additional damage. For instance, you could board up broken windows, place buckets in rooms with water leaks or hang plastic over damaged areas to prevent water from leaking in your home. Just don’t make any permanent repairs or throw anything away until your ERIE adjuster has seen the damage.

  2. Contact your claims handler

Once you’ve filed your claim, our claims handler or property adjuster will get in touch with you to review the details about the home insurance claim and your policy coverage. They’ll also inspect and estimate the damages.

To speed up the process, it would be helpful if you could:

    • Make a list and take pictures or video of what is damaged in your home room by room
    • Note details such as brand name, manufacturer, serial number and approximate price you paid for any damaged items

You could also use ERIE's handy home inventory form to help you document the details.

  3. Settle your claim

We want to settle your home insurance claim as quickly as possible. Most claims have speedy resolutions, but losses involving more severe damages may take a little longer.

As you work with us to settle your claim, keep this information handy:

    • Your insurance policy number (and the insured’s name as it appears on the policy)
    • Your claims number
    • The names, email addresses and phone numbers of your agent and claims handler
    • Estimates, emails and notes of phone conversations regarding the claim

ERIE customers always have a choice when it comes to deciding who they want to repair the damage. We recommend that you use a contractor who you know and trust. If you don’t have a contractor, we could offer a recommendation.

ERIE’s Property Repair Program helps customers with home insurance claims locate qualified, local contractors. This no-cost program is offered in partnership with Contractor Connection. Each one of the more than 4,000 contractors within the network undergoes a rigorous and ongoing credentialing process, and their work is guaranteed for three years. Your claims adjuster can help you tap into the network.
