Multifactor Authentication FAQs

What is Multifactor Authentication? Why is it important?

Multifactor authentication (MFA) is a multi-layered security access management process that grants users access to a network, system, or application after confirming their identity with more than one credential or authentication factor.

Erie Insurance will be implementing MFA on ERIE’s Online Account and Mobile App to enhance protection of ERIE and Customer data, while meeting regulatory requirements. MFA is important because it adds extra layers of protection beyond just a password and it makes hacking much more difficult, even if passwords are stolen.

ERIE will provide you with three options for MFA:

  • Biometric device and passkey
  • Authenticator app
  • Short message service (SMS) text message
