Support for Ohio Customers Affected by Recent Storms

Counties impacted by severe weather

ERIE is offering special accommodations for Ohio Customers who reside in or own any property located in or around the counties that were included in the state of emergency declared by the Governor on Feb. 24, 2018. The affected counties include Benton, Carroll, Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Elkhart, Floyd, Fulton, Harrison, Jasper, Jefferson, Lake, Marshall, Ohio, Perry, Pulaski, Perry, Spencer, St. Joseph, Starke, Switzerland, Warrick and White.


Billing Payments and Suspension of Policy Cancellations

Customers directly affected by the disaster events may defer their payments without any penalty for 60 days. Affected Customers can exercise the option to defer their payments retroactive to Feb. 19, 2018, through May 24, 20181.

All ERIE companies will withdraw cancellation and nonrenewal notices for nonpayment of premium that were sent to affected policyholders effective on and after Feb. 19, 2018. ERIE will reinstate policies of affected policyholders that have been cancelled or nonrenewed for nonpayment of premium from Feb. 19, 2018, through the present. Additionally, no ERIE company will issue any new cancellation or nonrenewal notice for nonpayment of premium to affected policyholders until May 24, 2018.


Other policy extensions

ERIE will grant 60-day extensions on any policy provision or requirement that imposes a time limit for an insured or claimant to perform any act, including the transmittal of information or funds. A longer extension may be granted if the extension is deemed reasonable under the specific circumstances related to that insured or claimant.

If your property falls within one of the identified counties and you were required to comply with an underwriting request as a condition of the renewal or continuation of your policy, and as a result of the storms, you need additional time to complete the request, please contact your ERIE agent or Customer Care.

The moratorium expires on May 24, 2018.
