Awards honor 50 large companies committed to advancing employee well-being

Erie Insurance (ERIE) was one of 50 large employers recognized with the Business Group on Health’s 2023 Best Employers: Excellence in Health & Well-being Award, for its commitment to advancing employee well-being through comprehensive and innovative benefits and initiatives.

This is ERIE’s 14th consecutive recognition by the Business Group on Health. The awards were announced last month in Washington, D.C. at the Group’s annual conference.

“It’s an honor to continue to be recognized as one of the best workforce health and employee well-being programs in the nation,” said Jody Irwin, director of benefits for Erie Insurance. “Our team is constantly working to understand our employee’s needs and advance our programs to meet them.”

This year’s awardees represent banking and financial services, health care, insurance, manufacturing, professional services, technology and utilities, among others.

“In the face of ongoing challenges, the award winners all enhance the lives of employees and their families through their innovative health and well-being programs,” said Ellen Kelsay, Business Group on Health president and CEO. “In addition, their leading-edge programs address critical issues such as health equity, social determinants of health and affordability, with an eye toward better health and well-being outcomes for everyone.”

MaryAnn Marchant, who administers ERIE’s health and well-being programs as a benefits analyst in Total Rewards, credits the company for its early vision and implementation of comprehensive and holistic benefits.

“Erie Insurance has long been committed to supporting and caring for our employees and their families to ensure we all have the opportunity to achieve our highest quality of life,” said Marchant. “It’s rewarding work to be growing and evolving our health and well-being programs for the ‘ERIE Family’ and new employees who will join us.”

As part of its Total Rewards benefits program, ERIE offers an incentive-based well-being program, annual biometric screenings, dedicated wellness representatives and several voluntary health education programs. Employees also have access to onsite behavioral health counseling, nutrition counseling, employee affinity networks, a company pension and 401k program, financial counseling, personalized assistance, adoption and fertility assistance, facilities and resources including an onsite gym, gym membership discounts for field employees and ergonomic workspace evaluations.

“The 2023 winners serve as a model for other companies and organizations looking to amplify their benefit offerings,” said LuAnn Heinen, vice president of the Business Group. “We congratulate each and every one of the honorees for setting such high standards and for being employers of choice.”

The Business Group evaluated companies based on leadership, strategy and culture; holistic well-being, including mental health, financial security, physical health, social connectedness and job satisfaction; engagement and the employee experience; health equity; and metrics and evaluation.
