Erie Insurance Charity Challenge has donated more than $2 million since 2010 to local nonprofits
Twenty-five Erie-area nonprofits received over $115,000 in donations from the 14th annual Erie Insurance (ERIE) Charity Challenge golf tournament. Area businesses participating in the tournament donated their “prize” money to a charitable organization of their choice.
Since its start in 2010, Charity Challenge has contributed more than $2 million to local nonprofits in Erie and Allentown, Pa. This level of giving is possible because Erie Insurance underwrites the entire cost of the tournaments so that every dollar raised from entry fees and sponsorships goes directly to charities.
“For 100 years now, Erie Insurance has made it a priority to ‘give where we live’ and we are excited to share that opportunity with other local businesses through the Charity Challenge each year,” said Jenny Geertson, ERIE’s community outreach director. “When you look at the 25 local non-profit organizations that will benefit from this year’s Charity Challenge, each has a unique mission and play an important role in making our community a better place to live and work.”
The nonprofits benefiting from funds this year include: American Red Cross, Asbury Woods Partnership, Barber National Institute, Because You Care, Bradley H. Foulk Children's Advocacy Center of Erie County, Emma's Footprints, Emmaus Ministries, Erie Downtown Partnership, Erie Humane Society, expERIEnce Children's Museum, French Creek Council – Scouting America, Housing and Neighborhood Development Service (HANDS), Impact Corry, John F. Kennedy Center, Junior Achievement of Western Pennsylvania, Lindsay Graygo Memorial Fund, Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia, Meals on Wheels Erie, Multicultural Community Resource Center, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania, St. Martin Center, The Salvation Army, Therapy Dogs United, YMCA of Greater Erie and Lucy's First Step.
