Life & Accident Insurance

Insurer: MetLife

  • ERIE’s Group Life Insurance Plan offers both company-paid Basic Life and optional Employee-paid Supplemental Life Insurance offerings for full-time ERIE Employees.
  • Eligible Employees are automatically enrolled in company-paid Basic Group Life Insurance and Business Travel Accident Insurance.

Critical Illness Coverage

Provider: Aflac

Critical illness insurance pays a lump-sum cash benefit directly to you following the diagnosis of a covered critical illness, which includes but is not limited to heart attack, sudden cardiac arrest, cancer, stroke, advanced Parkinson’s disease and benign brain tumor.

You receive cash benefits directly (unless otherwise assigned) to help pay bills related to treatment or to use for everyday living expenses.

Eligibility: You can cover yourself and your spouse. This coverage automatically includes eligible dependent child(ren) under the age of 26.

  • Guaranteed issue benefit amounts for an Employee of $10,000 or $20,000.
  • A spouse is guaranteed issue for 50% of the Employee’s benefit.
  • No pre-existing condition limitation or waiting period. (Please note there are specific Cancer Diagnosis Limitations and Exclusions. Aflac will only pay claims for covered illnesses or injuries that occur on or after the coverage date of the plan.)
  • Health screening benefit of $50 paid for health screening tests performed as part of preventive care (once per year for a covered Employee and spouse).
  • Election of the Group Critical Illness Insurance plan is voluntary, and premiums are paid with after-tax contributions.

Keep Your Life Insurance Beneficiary Current

Your life insurance beneficiary is the person(s) or party you’ve designated to receive your life insurance benefit upon your death.


If you have had a life event such as marriage or divorce, you may wish to change your beneficiary.


Change your life insurance beneficiary at any time by logging on to myBenefits on ERIEweb and selecting the life benefit link(s) from your Benefits Summary page (ERIEweb > Info Center > myBenefits > Benefits Summary).


Affirm or change your life beneficiary during Open Enrollment for the upcoming plan year (effective January 1) through the myBenefits Open Enrollment link on ERIEweb.

    During annual enrollment, current active Employees can elect an additional 1x base annual earnings for Supplemental Life offering without evidence of insurability.
