Identity Theft and Fraud Recovery Claims

When a thief steals your identity, it’s a terrible situation. It’s an invasion of your privacy. We know you’re uneasy about it, but you can count on Erie Insurance’s support to help you get things straightened out. For customers who have ERIE’s Identity Recovery and Fraud Reimbursement Coverage, here’s step-by-step advice on how to start your claim. And the sooner you call us, the sooner we can get to work for you.

  1. Start your claim

If you need to start a claim, call ERIE’s Identity Recovery Hotline:

    (866) ERIENOW
    (866) 374-3669

The Identity Recovery Claim Center is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Eastern), Monday through Friday, but representatives are on call 24/7 for emergencies.

  2. Work with a case manager

We'll put you in touch with a case manager, who will get to work to fix the identity fraud problem. Here are some of the things that a case manager will do for you:

    • Contact the fraud departments of the three major credit bureaus to place a fraud alert on your credit file. This alert requires creditors to contact you before opening any new accounts or making any changes to your existing accounts.
    • Order copies of your credit report from all three major credit bureaus to review recent activity.
    • Close accounts that were opened fraudulently.
    • Write letters on your behalf to the Social Security Administration, the Department of Motor Vehicles or other agencies.
    • Keep detailed records of the steps taken and remaining to restore your identity.

Rest assured, the case managers would treat your personal information with the utmost security. Each case manager is a state licensed investigator and must complete continuing education requirements each year. They also go through an extensive interview process that includes a county, state and national criminal check, fingerprint analysis and credit report check.

Throughout the claims process, we’ll stay in contact with you. If you had additional questions about your coverage or your claim, get in touch with your local ERIE agent.
