To make payments of Workers' Compensation benefits easier for injured workers and beneficiaries of death benefits, New York state has enacted Assembly Bill 7579 effective July 1, 2021. Upon written request of an injured worker or a person entitled to death benefits, payments can be deposited into a claimant’s bank account directly in the name of the injured worker or a person entitled to death benefits. Eligible persons who elect this direct deposit option will be provided with the necessary forms by Erie Insurance Group (ERIE) in order to set up the claimant’s bank to receive payments via direct deposit.
This option is available to new and existing eligible claimants.
If eligible claimants do not wish to use the direct deposit option, paper checks will continue to be sent by regular US Mail.
Claimants currently receiving Workers' Compensation benefits from an existing Workers' Compensation claim can contact their ERIE claims adjuster for more information and the process for direct deposit enrollment.
Eligible claimants who file new Workers' Compensation claims effective on and after July 1, 2021 will be offered the option of direct deposit as a means to receiving payments, if applicable.
